The Scoop:
I'm 32, a Greek, -I fix computers (make house calls-PC's only, Macs don't deserve my time) and mix music. I maintain a five node net under Lantastic v6.x for Ardsley Stove Corp (Bronx, NY). -a stove parts supply house. I converted them from manual bookkeeping to full automation. I also make all their flyers and catalog stuff under QuarkXpress & Photoshop. I'm a DOS junkie, but I have no problem moving forward with technology.. Been online since 1983 -was doin the QLink thang with the C=64 Commodore 64 & 128, an avid BBS fool [Long Live Renegade-Cott Lang is God] I write some deep shit for the girls in my life(yeah I'm a romantic fool who looks at a woman as an "Interactive Art form..) ..maybe when I get off my lazy ass I'll get them published. I'm self taught in everything..I eventually got a HS Diploma but as of yet, no one has ever asked for it.
Parents divorced when I was 6.. I'm an only child, but I have a brother, Ted, -he runs Whitmore Merchandising, a slick advertising/signiage company[he will have a jumpsite soon] Dad's a stuntman (Pres. East Coast Stuntmens Assoc.) Mom was a stuntwoman but got tired of doing rape scenes and getting chucked outta the back of cars at 50mph. Now she's just Super Mom. Dad used to be Frank Sinatra's double and mom doubled Rachel Welch-no wonder why I'm so f'n handsome..];-)
..was born in California, moved to NYC when I was two(driving that baby carriage 3000 miles was no walk in the park either..) grew up on the west 30th&8ave and then in the east 70's on York ave.. Lived in CA from '88-'93 ..Now I live in The Bronx.
When I was 15 I was riding a motorcycle and got clocked by an ambulance on 84th&Mad..was DOA, got revived at the scene, died again in ICU for 2+ minutes got zapped back to life (well, in a coma for 18 dayz) broke my back and cruise in a wheel chair as a result..(and NO I didn't see no frigin blue lights..but then, The National Enquirer didn't show up either..) ..made $1.395 Million on the deal but spent it in 6 years..it was fun to say the least...still would rather walk tho....Died again in '91 during a surgery (2min+) due loss of blood (was getting a leg amputated for spare parts..) -thats three times and still no blue lights...I'm sure I would seen'em if the tabloids showed up with $10,000 Cash -Been thru all sorts of addictions, they were fun too, but not profitable ('xept maybe for the experience) Oh and in case your wondering, I'm not religious. Seems to me more people DIE from religion than are saved from it. Science is the only religion for me..(and a Bus Load of Faith-in myself)
Well in '88 I moved to CA to get away from all the great drugs here in NYC and re- opened a 32 track (16x2)studio, (BTW: all you Joey Miserable and The Worms fans here in NYC..I helped push [co-produced] their two albums out the door..'83-'85) got into the Oakland sound scene, and found out I could mix Rap real well (oh f**king joy!) -anyway, I got tired of doing whole sessions with these assholes (they come in and "practise" while they were recording..no chops whatsoever..) and started doing just the final mix stuff. They found that could call me in after all the tracks were laid and I could "clean up" the mess they made in short notice. A sort of "Soundwasher" if you will.. actually I can do this with most any music, but anyway thats where Soundwash comes from.
..NFO is the extension to an "info" phile -usually a crack or cheat of some kind that tells you how to use it, how good it iz, who made it, all the pirate affiliations that are passing it, and maybe how it works..
I love collecting these things, as well finding info on most anything that intrigues me (or moves for that matter) -A sort of information scavenger if you will.. So I clean up mixes and get info on anything that tickles my fancy, or anyone elses for that matter.. There you have it: Soundwash.NFO
Now I was known as a techno-gadget freak, and Poindexter was the first nick they came up with, but Vinni The Guinea couldn't say it (he was drunk) ..and since most of'em got crocked quite often, that wouldn't do. But at that moment Ricky Lee Jones's song "All Star Cafe" came on the radio (99X) the lyric "Come on Cecil gimme a dollar, come'on Cecil gimme a dime, I'm in a half way house on a one way street.." came wafting into the room..now since everyone used ta shake me down for beer money [I don't drink] (I was one of few with a job -in Coney Island) it was perfect. Jackie said, "yeah!, we'll call him Cecil!" Vinnie The Guinea blurted out "Cecil!" (got his approval -he could say it) ...a Cecil was born.
I think Bill Gates is an asshole but also a marketing genius..Win95 sucks big wee wee, -your all gonna have to jump to Win NT in two years anyway so whats the purpose?? -Make something idiot proof and they'll make a better idiot. Why not try and make everybody smarter rather than dumb down the smart ones by forcing us to use this pathetic software.. Only in America is ignorance bliss, everywhere else it'll kill ya! Its a great country America..
Its too bad OS/2WARP kinda choked.. And when is Intel gonna dump these silly x86 chips and go to RISC?? -you can stuff only so many buffers on a chip.. HEY INTEL, dump x86 Go to RISC and just give all us x86 fools an emulator or a daughter card, sheesh...your gonna have ta do it eventually (The Mac people have done this rather nicely -to their credit.) -Guess its just another case of the slow moving giant
My opinion of a Mac? It's a computer with training wheels you can't remove.. (ya know if they had let people clone their computers they would probably be where M$DOS/Intel is today.. after all, they have shown they can adjust faster [somewhat] to their customer demands..Goes ta show ya what GREED will get you..
